Amazon is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Professional to join our EU direct tax advisory team. This role will primarily focus on supporting Amazon's high-growth Consumer business in the EMEA region, with a particular emphasis on the German market.

The position is open for hiring in Munich.

As a principal member of the team, you will play a vital role in monitoring legislative updates, providing strategic tax advice on cross-border transactions and new business initiatives, and managing intricate tax audits and controversies. With Germany being Amazon's second-largest online marketplace and having over 300 legal entities, you will navigate a complex tax landscape, working closely with German and Austrian tax authorities and senior internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is a certified Tax Advisor (Steuerberater) and has extensive experience in handling highly complex tax matters, such as Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs), Mutual Agreement Procedures (MAPs), and intricate tax audits involving aggressive tax authorities

Key job responsibilities
• Manage tax audits and controversies in Germany and Austria, coordinating responses and earning trust with tax authorities.
• Monitor and analyse legislative developments in Germany and other key EMEA markets [such as Austria, Poland & others], ensuring compliance.
• Supporting international and local tax controversy teams on tax audits in German speaking countries.
• Provide strategic tax advice on international corporate income tax issues across projects and new business initiatives.
• Conduct in-depth technical analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving on complex tax matters.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business, legal, accounting, and finance.
• Investigate and respond to internal and external information requests.

Basic qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, information systems, finance, or equivalent, or a MBA and experience in tax, finance or a related analytical field
- - Background in German direct tax matters and German fluent language skills are required. Basic Qualifications
- - Extensive advisory experience in a large accounting/consultancy practice, law firm, tax authority or business in-house.
- - Proficiency English and German language.
- - Experienced in German tax legislation.

Preferred qualifications

- - Recognized professional tax qualification, such as a Steuerberater (German Tax Advisor) or equivalent.
- - Extensive experience in managing complex international tax matters, with a focus on corporate income tax, transfer pricing, permanent establishment, and cross-border transactions.
- - Proven track record in handling intricate tax audits and controversies involving tax authorities, with quantifiable impact and successful resolutions.
- - Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand processes and systems.
