Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people.

Information about the position

At Vinted, backend engineers are part of cross-functional product teams that include Mobile, Web, and Backend engineers, as well as a product manager, designer, and decision scientist. Backend engineers are responsible for implementing business logic, developing APIs for our mobile and web platforms, and scaling our backend systems to meet growing platform needs.

The Purchase domain guides members from the initial intent to buy to the successful purchase of the desired item. It is composed of several teams that work on delivering smooth checkout, payment, shipping, and messaging functionality to our users.

We’re looking for Senior Backend Engineers to strengthen the messaging subdomain.

Messaging subdomain is focused on building Vinted’s messaging experience - a key feature that enables members to communicate, negotiate prices, receive order updates, contact support, and much more.

Our teams are seeking someone who writes clean code and enjoys working on large-scale projects. Your daily focus will involve heavy product-side experimentation, technical excellence within a microservices architecture, and contributions to company-level initiatives.

In this position, you’ll

Drive and Own E2E Initiatives: Lead complex, end-to-end initiatives from architectural design to production delivery, ensuring seamless integration across the stack.
Proactive Problem Solver: Actively identify and "name" systemic issues, architectural bottlenecks, or process inefficiencies before they impact the business.
Performance Optimization: Leverage a proven track record of optimizing high-scale systems to improve latency, throughput, and resource efficiency.
AI-Driven Automation: Proactively identify and automate repetitive manual tasks by integrating AI tools and LLMs into the engineering workflow to boost team velocity.
Monolith Decomposition: Lead the extraction of existing functionalities into standalone services using Go and Ruby, prioritizing Go for high-performance components.
Event-Driven Architecture: Design robust data projections and produce high-quality events for downstream systems, ensuring data integrity at scale.
Observability & Reliability: Monitor production health using Kibana, Grafana, and Datadog, while owning SLIs/SLOs to guarantee 99.9%++ reliability.
High-Impact Delivery: Ship code that affects 85 million users via a CI/CD pipeline that deploys the master branch directly to production on every merge.
Collaborative Leadership: Apply Agile/Lean principles through rigorous GitHub code reviews and partner across teams to align roadmaps and deliver results.
Trusted Stability: Participate in on-call rotations, focusing on root-cause analysis and comprehensive post-mortems to ensure long-term system health.
Radical Candor: Provide and seek direct, impactful feedback to foster a culture of continuous growth and technical excellence.

About you

API Architect: You bring deep experience in designing and implementing RESTful services, with the ability to architect robust, scalable APIs that ensure a seamless experience for 85 million users.
Go Specialist (or Aspiring Expert): You are ready to leverage Go to build high-performance backend systems. Whether you are already a seasoned Gopher or a polyglot engineer eager to master it, you prioritize writing efficient, idiomatic code.
Systems Thinker: You possess a strong foundation in Software Engineering, Distributed Systems, and Event-Driven Architecture. You don't just follow patterns; you understand the trade-offs (pros/cons) of microservices and enterprise architecture.
Status-Quo Challenger: You are a proactive driver of change. When you spot a bottleneck or a technical debt "landmine," you don't just notice it - you name it, champion a solution, and lead the effort to fix it.
Performance & Automation Mindset: You have a proven track record of optimizing system performance and a curiosity for automating the mundane using AI, constantly looking for ways to boost team velocity through modern tooling.
