We’re HealthCorps – a national non-profit organization committed to improving lives by addressing health challenges in communities through programming that includes innovative and engaging experiences for teens in education, leadership, and service learning. At the heart of our model in near-peer mentorship: we partner with local colleges and universities to deploy college-age mentors into schools, where they connect with students in a way that few others can, as relatable role models who inspire teens to become change agents within their families, schools and neighborhoods. Where You Fit In

HealthCorps is seeking a skilled and experienced health education teacher or curriculum specialist to serve as an independent contractor for a defined project focused on differentiating our existing Teens Make Health Happen curriculum into distinct middle school and high school products. This is a project-based contract engagement ideal for an educator with instructional design experience who is deeply familiar with adolescent health education and national health education standards. The contractor will work closely with the Curriculum Development & M&E department to take our flagship Teens Make Health Happen program curriculum and produce two distinct, grade-band-appropriate curriculum products that are aligned with National Health Education Standards (NHES 2024).

Scope of Work

The contractor will be responsible for the following deliverables within the agreed project timeline (approximately 3 months):

Review the existing unified TMHH curriculum to identify content, language, scaffolding, and pacing elements requiring differentiation across middle and high school grade bands.

Develop a differentiated middle school curriculum product and high school curriculum product, including revised learning objectives explicitly aligned to NHES 2024 standards and age-appropriate language, depth of content, and instructional strategies.

Ensure both products maintain fidelity to HealthCorps' Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework and near-peer mentorship model.

Collaborate with HealthCorps staff through regular check-ins, incorporating feedback through an iterative review process.

Deliver final curriculum documents in HealthCorps-approved formats, ready for mentor-facilitation use.

Requirements

Valid formal teaching credential (state-issued; elementary, secondary, or multiple subject)

Demonstrated experience teaching or developing curriculum for middle school and/or high school students

Experience with curriculum differentiation across grade bands and learning levels

Excellent written communication skills; ability to produce polished, mentor-ready instructional materials

Ability to work independently, manage project timelines, and meet deliverable deadlines

Preferred:

Strong working knowledge of the National Health Education Standards (NHES 2024) and their application to curriculum design

Direct experience facilitating or serving as a site sponsor for the Teens Make Health Happen (TMHH) program

Proficiency in Canva

Contract Terms

This is an independent contractor engagement. The selected contractor will:

Enter into a formal independent contractor agreement with HealthCorps defining deliverables, timeline, and compensation.

Be responsible for their own taxes, benefits, and professional liability; no employee benefits are included

Work remotely on a flexible schedule, with availability for scheduled check-ins with HealthCorps staff

Be compensated at an agreed-upon project rate or hourly rate, as defined in the contractor agreement

Not be considered an employee of HealthCorps for any purpose
